Working with an International Client

It seems like everyday, some new advanced piece of technology or software has been introduced that completely changes the way we work in this industry.  In my previous life, I had learned about the 'internet' and 'websites' long before they were so accessible and knew that they would change the way we live.

Now, its hard to run a business without a website or some sort of web presence.  Although my imagine is quite wild, I didn't foresee the way the internet would help me do business in the interior design industry. Whenever I ask one of my assistants for information on something, their first point of reference is Google.  Facebook, Skype, Google, LinkedIn, blogs, White Pages online are just a few of the ways to get and stay connected digitally and effectively.

With the help of Skype, email, PDFs, digital cameras and camcorders, I can now design not only nationwide but also internationally.

I'm telling you this because I have a brand new client currently residing in London and building their retirement home in Houston.  Because the couple can't trek back and forth often, designing and communicating with them is quite different.  Conference calls often take the place of in-person meetings and are effective when discussing plans- that have been emailed out in PDF format! And I can't stress how vital emails are to transferring information.

I have been lucky to meet this particular client during the planning phase of their project and will be keeping updates of the design process on my blog and my website.  Check out the updates on my Portfolio page under "The Design Process." For the next year, we will be space planning, material selecting, tile designing, antique shopping, building and furniture arranging all the while keeping you in the loop!
