Transitionally Refined

A young family moved to Houston from Dallas and searched for a well-established neighborhood full of homes with large yards, swimming pools and a great school system. Even though their new neighborhood is traditional in style, this family’s style is not.

The wife of this family travels frequently for her job and wanted her home to be nicer than the hotels she stays in. The master bathroom became a calming and relaxing sanctuary for this couple and much more attuned to their style preferences.

Contemporary design has a ‘less-is-more’ quality where more attention to detail must be paid with every square inch of a space. There is no room for error and nothing can be hidden with embellishments. These types of projects require a very skilled design team coordinating work with an expert contractor that is willing to slow down and make sure everything is just right, not just getting it done. Four grouted tile samples were done before the perfect one was found and agreed upon by all parties involved.

This magnificent home proves that contemporary design can reside in a traditional setting and is accomplished by using more quality materials in a lesser quantity.

Master Bathroom

Being a ‘numbers’ person, the geometry and symmetry of the bathroom really appealed to the wife and we accentuated these features by mimicking the octagon pattern in the flooring.

The vanity cabinets were custom made for the space; to help eliminate mess and clutter, the electrical outlets are hidden within the cabinetry. The open bottom shelf is perfect for towel storage reminiscent of luxury hotels.

To add some visual interest, the walls behind the vanities were completely tiled in a glass tile mosaic and the freestanding bathtub was angled to enjoy the lush private garden just outside the windows.

Adding to the luxury of this space is the wall covering which is a grass cloth mounted on a silk background. Additionally, the mix-matched chrome and crystal lighting add some sparkle, as do the glass tile walls behind the vanities and in the shower.
