Awhile ago, I received an email that has really made me think. It was one of those tender chain mails that gets circulated, forwarded and resent a million times- one of those that I usually delete unread. I don’t know what made me click this one open and read it but I sure am glad that I did.
It was about the power of girlfriends- that basically that there is no problem in the world that 12 women in a room couldn't solve with their collective wisdom, candor, insight, creativity and love.
I thought about all the times I’d gone to my girls for help on issues ranging from the best methods for potty-training, to how long to roast a rack of lamb, whether or not a particular pair of jeans makes my butt look big ---all the way to should I stay or leave my struggling marriage. I have called on them to share a laugh, to vent, to talk about a ‘new guy’ (who is now my husband!), to cry out in rage, to ask for prayer, to be encouraged, to just be heard.
Truth is I couldn't have made it without them.
My 12 at my wedding reception!
I started a "Birthday Club" Once a month, 12 of my closest girlfriends get together. I need them, they need me and they need to know each other.
Each month one of ‘my 12’ hosts a party, event, or small get-together. Sometimes we invite others, sometimes it is just for us 12. Throughout the past year, our club has become such a tight knit pack of women who have each other's support in all situations.
12 is just a number- you may have ‘3’ or ‘15’ girlfriends that have stood by you through thick and thin, given you advice on any issue, laughed with you, cried with you and its time we see and be with each other. There is nothing more life-sustaining than a good girl friends. So get with your Soul Sisters- it will do your heart good!
