Look Up!

There is one plane every room has that is so often neglected......Ceilings!  Ceilings can be great places to add color, texture, visual interest, patterns, etc.  Laundry rooms and powder bathrooms are two of my favorite spaces to add a ceiling treatment; the small spaces provide the perfect set up for something a little fun and funky!

Here are some great spaces that have covered their white ceilings and opted for something a with a little more interest....

With a completely neutral color palette throughout this kitchen, a calm blue was added to the ceiling and adds a warm cozy touch to the otherwise cool white space.

The wood paneling of the walls in this living room was continued on the ceiling creating a fun pattern with the white beams.

This adorable girl's room has a whole lot of pink but isn't at all like Barbie's Dreamhouse.  The pink wall treatment was continued seamlessly onto the ceiling for an overall pink glow.

Tin is an amazing design element that isn't used too much anymore.  The patterns, colors and patinas available with tin ceilings are classic and oh-so-lovely, just marvel at the kitchen above!  Faux tin ceilings are also available for those who can't install actual pieces of patterned tin!

Not as much for the air, as it is for heat. Because the cold air will fall, the higher celilng does not have as much effect for the temp. If anything it takes the hotest air further away from you, making it feel even cooler in comparison. For the heat on the other hand, because the heat rises, you would be heating a lot of empty space. If it is in a hotter climate, heating the home may not even be an issue. One issue you will have is if the air is coming out of the celilng, it will take more engery to pump the cool air up that much higher, assuming your compressor and all HVAC equipment is on the lower lever. One thing you may want to look into would be a mini duct system. The compressor and equipment can be installed in the attic, and require a lot less energy and is much more cost effective.
