Although LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) have been around since the 60s, these little sources of light are causing quite a stir recently with their long lives, low energy consumption and versatility.
Here are some advantages and disadvantages to replacing your light traditional incandescents with LEDs....

Advantages:
*Efficiency - LEDs are much more efficient than traditional incandescents because they emit much more light per watt.
*Great coloration of LEDs has been improving drastically and some great LEDs can fool you into thinking you have a traditional incandescent
*Long Life - LEDs can last up to 4 times as long as a compact fluorescent! So for those lights on the top of your 20-foot ceiling, you won't have to change them that often.
*Dimmable - enough said!
*Initial high price - LEDs are much more expensive than incandescents or even fluorescents
*Failure of mechanics - overrunning LED lights can cause the mechanism holding the LED to fail even if the bulbs are still functional. But...a bulb that can't illuminate anything isn't worth much.
*Coloration - with LEDs, you get what you pay for when it comes to good color rendering. Inexpensive bulbs tend to have a bluish light - not at all like the nice warm light of a traditional incandescent.
