Here's a chance for you to meet my trusty assistant Amber Reddoch. She's brilliant! If you haven't had a chance to meet her, be on the lookout for some events to attend and chat a little with this awesome young woman.
1. When did you get into design and why?
Amber: I was 26 when I decided to go to school for design. I always had an interest in design and one day I was watching HGTV and it hit me that I could do that, so I registered for school.

Amber with By Design's owner and founder, Peggy Fuller.
2. Which designers influence you the most and why?
Amber: Alexa Hampton because her designs are so well thought out - no detail is left un-addressed. Tobi Fairly because of her bold use of color in new and exciting ways. Cindy Aplanalp because her creative genius is boundless and she has an uncanny ability to know exactly what her clients would love.

3. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Amber: 2 places...First I would love to visit the island of Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia so my boys could experience the culture of their heritage. Second, I have always wanted to visit Tahiti.
4. Where is the best place on earth you've been?
Amber: So far....Hawaii - it was beautiful, the perfect temperature, and I fell in love with the culture and hospitality of the people.
5. What is your favorite aspect of design?
Amber: I can't really pick just one aspect - I love all parts and the variety in this field is part of what makes things exciting and never stagnant.
6. What kinds of things do you enjoy designing the most?
Amber: There is something incredibly satisfying about starting a project from the plan phase and having the ability to influence the design from the beginning so that you don't have to work around things that don't really work but you can't really change. It makes layering everything else smoother.
7. What is one thing you wish you knew before becoming a designer?
Amber: I don't really have an answer to that. I feel like I was prepared for what design would entail as a career and it fit my expectations exactly.
8. What is something you believe every home should have?
Amber: Every home should have a little bit of versatility so things can be used differently when needed.
