How to Create a Master Bedroom Retreat

Master bedrooms are becoming my favorite spaces to create. I love to give a room an atmosphere of soul, seduction and serenity. A master is a masterful place to add such emotion and intimacy.

 Quick how to’s

1. Soothing and saturated color palette.  Rich colors work well in a master- don’t forget the ceiling- consider it a ‘wall’ carry the wall color to ceiling- it offers a coo-cooning effect.
2. Spurge on bedding.  Get the good stuff- like the best hotel bedding you’ve ever slept on. Why not- you spend a lot of time in bed- make it heavenly.

This picture is from one of my designs.

3. Omit clutter and God forbid, work related things in your master bedroom- This is your oasis- keep it calm and inviting.

This is a great example from the Architectural Digest magazine.

1. Have a signature scent- add a candle of the same- set your bedtime ritual to calm with soul-ful music and a pleasing scent   Lavender is a calming choice. Increase the impact with bath products and bed linen spray.

2. Dimmers- if you can stand to- omit the ceiling fan and add a chandelier...  because nothing helps set the mood like candle light- even it if is electric candlelight!

This master bedroom was created by Kira Krumm Interior Design.  I love the mood created by the two chandeliers on either side of the bed.
