Freedom of Expression

With July 4th weekend just behind us, we all have been celebrating our freedom and it got me thinking!  We all know that on top of our freedom to live the lives we choose, we also have the freedom to express ourselves.  As a culture, we express ourselves in so many different ways.... with music, art, words, facial expressions, gifts, and closer to my heart, in design.

In my opinion, interior design is the best form of personal expression; the intent of interior design is to create a space that is utterly unique and fully functioning to its user!  Interior design's purpose is to create environments that tell a person, group, or family's unique story through the objects they have selected and collected over time and the way they live in their space.

Unlike any other disciplines, like accounting for example, there are no rules in interior design; there are no right or wrong answers.  Each design is created for its own specific end user- not for anyone else so every "problem" that arises has a multitude of answers that is resolved, with advice of course, by the end user.

So remember to let your space be your space.  Choose colors, objects, art, furnishings that resonate with your character and personality.  Let freedom inhabit!

I LOVE this philosophy! Its so true....for as long as I can remember, one of my favorite ways to 'get to know' someone is to walk around their room or house and look at all of their things. The things people collect and show off in their home really acts like an open book to who they are, what they like and what's important to them!
