Erika Bo-Berika

1. When did you get into design and why?

Erika:  My decision to become an interior designer was more of a leap of faith; I wanted to be photographer but decided I could do that without a degree. So to be "more practical," I took an intro class in Interior Design and was hooked. I had always loved decorating while growing up- my closet was blue, my bookshelves were always changing- I guess it was always in me, I just didn't know it.

2. Which designers influence you the most and why?

Erika: Amy Butler is amazing. She began as a fabric and sewing pattern designer and now has a huge line of products. Her bright colors and vintage inspired patterns make it ok to love pinks and florals even when you're an adult.

3. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Erika: I love to travel and have an extensive bucket list - Thailand, New Zealand, Prague, Lesotho, Banff, Kenya, Spain,Morocco.......etc...

4. Where is the best place on earth you've been?

Erika in Southern Italy

Erika: The island of Capri off of the southern coast of Italy. Found a 'beach' that only locals know about- a chunk of coast that someone used somedynamiteand created sunbathing levels out of the cliff. Cliff dove and swam with thousands of fish while boats full of tourist floated by wondering how we got there!

5. What is your favorite aspect of design?

Erika: It changes all of the time - I love working with tile and creating tile designs. I love the satisfaction of creating a great design that a client loves and hearing about how much they enjoy their new space.

6. What kinds of things do you enjoy designing the most?

Erika: I am on a bathroom kick right now but slipping into upholstery and rugs. Rugs are gorgeous!

7. What is one thing you wish you knew before becoming a designer?

Erika: The math! I am not a fan of math- that's why I went into the arts- but there is a surprising amount in this job! Calculations, measuring, calculations from your measuring.....

8. What is something you believe every home should have?

Erika: Life! Every home should reflect all of the life of the people in it. And lots of rugs and ottomans, you can't have enough rugs or ottomans.
