Editor at Large

Becoming really active in all forms of social media has been on my to do list for several months now.  Using Facebook, Twitter, and my blog is an easy and accessible way to reach people and connect with those that share the same loves/passions/interests as me.  This week, several well-known design bloggers came to the Decorative Center of Houston for the Editor at Large panel discussion about using these tools and how they can really connect the entire design industry.

While I couldn't make it to the panel discussion, my assistant Erika thoroughly enjoyed listening to and talking with Julia Noran and Sophie Donelson from Editoratlarge.com, Jillian St. Charles from HGTV.com, Ronda Carman of AlltheBestBlog.com, Brad Ford of DesignTherapy.com and Joni Webb of CotedeTexas.blogspot.com.  The panel was a unique mix of interior designers, enthusiasts, journalists, and writers who all share a love of design.

Each of these people use several outlets of social media to connect with the design industry and with people who simply love design.  They discussed that while blogs may not be the best thing for every person, they still provide an outlet to share ideas.  Even if you don't have your own personal blog, that doesn't mean you can't be apart of the community; leaving comments and submitting content to be shared on someone else's blog are an easy way to connect.

Facebook, Twitter, and blogs are all free sources to connect with friends and family or people all over the world.

Sophie said it best, "Until you start defining yourself online, other people are doing it for you."
