An easy way to update a look is to change your accessories, and I don't mean your frames and all the little things you've collected over the years.  Your pillows, throws, and definitely a different rug can completely change the look of your space without replacing big-ticket items like your furniture or breaking the bank.  Beginning with a neutral palette on larger pieces makes it easy update with all ranges of color; you can create seasonal looks for your spaces by changing just a few accessories.

The fun doesn't have to stop at 2 pillows; a variety of pillows in different sizes and textures add softness and interest to a space.  Rugs are often one of the first things I begin to look for while designing a space; they often inspire my color palettes for an entire room and provide the design style.  Artwork helps relay the mood that the room has- art can create tension or add a sense of calm.  Art can be interesting or promote a sense of power.  But all of these elements combined are what create a home and changing these three elements can drastically change a space.
