Dual Purpose Kitchen

As our society is evolving, so are our spaces; ceilings are higher, everyone get's their own bedrooms, men as well as women are claiming work spaces within a home.  However, the space that has changed the most throughout time is the kitchen.  Now considered the heart of the home, kitchens are being opened up to our living areas and are including work spaces to encourage togetherness.  But kitchens haven't completed their evolution.  A noticeable trend in kitchen design for the Baby Boomers is creating a Dual Purpose Kitchen.

One space now has to serve two different settings....

1. The 9-5 Kitchen - This is our average-Joe kitchen for our daily cooking... 2 to 3 person meals with minimal prep or cook time.

and

2.  The Party Kitchen - As children are growing up and going away, kitchens are serving a different purpose than just making family meals.  Admittedly, people around my age like to throw parties, have people over to enjoy a glass of wine, any excuse to entertain.  Our kitchens need to be able to support a large party and do so quickly.  Ample storage, lots of refrigeration, prep sinks, seating and plenty of cooking appliances to throw that weekend bash.

Be sure to consider all of the ways you would like to use your kitchen space during a remodel or kitchen design.  How much do you cook? How do you like to cook? What appliances can you not live without?  Those are just a few questions to get you going.  And as always, don't hesitate for a design consultation because....I know stuff!
