Day 12 with Alexa Hampton

Seating Selections
Day 12 with Alexa Hampton

Since we spend a large portion of our day sitting down, its an incredibly important aspect to design.  Typical furniture shoppers will visit a showroom, buy a collection (a sofa, loveseat and chair) and when its delivered to their space, the scale is all wrong and its a little....boring.

Seating can be a work of art.  A combination of elements and styles to tailor to your needs can create beautiful visual interest.  When we begin space planning a room, one of the first problems we solve is including enough seating.  By drawing the space before selecting furniture, we can determine the perfect arrangement.

A wide range of customizations can be fun to play with when it comes to seating - tufting, cushion options, down vs. foam, welting, patterns, textures, details, exposed wood, etc......

Catering seating to each individual takes asking the right questions to all of the people who are going to use a space.  Women generally like curling up on a sofa while men typically prefer club chairs; these personal preferences add to the fun variety of seating in a space.

I hope you enjoyed our 12 days with Alexa Hampton; here my team and I are meeting her at High Point Market in October of 2010.

For more style guidance, check out Alexa Hampton's recent book “The Language of Interior Design.” I strongly recommend this book if you need a gift idea for anyone on your list or if you’d like to treat yourself to an amazing read and some beautiful photos.
