Your Island!
Your kitchen island is an easy call out to any kitchen; make it beautiful, different and interesting while keeping in the style of your home...here's how....

1. Use contrasting materials on your island. There are a few easy steps towards making your island look a little jazzed up; use a contrasting material for the countertops. Don't be afraid to change it up- while your perimeter counter tops may be one kind of granite, your island can be a different one, a marble, butcher block or even something funky like stainless steel. Experiment with your cabinet color as well; use a different stain as your perimeter cabinets or even try a paint or faux finish.

2. Make your island look like a piece of furniture. You can go beyond using different materials on your island; change up the cabinet door styles, add some furniture like details such as corbels, or change the hardware to make your island look like a repurposed piece of furniture. Or better yet, actually repurpose an old piece of furniture into an island!

3. Hide some appliances in your island. Your island is the perfect place to hide some appliances; microwave drawers are a perfect example and are a safer, easier to maintain and reach than the traditional over the head ones.

4. Add some lighting. By adding some toe-kick lighting to your island, you're adding a little ambiance, a little safety and a nice nightlight for your midnight snacks.
