  • Mud Room Magic

"Mudrooms are the great buffer between the inside and outside; they keep the clutter and muck out, sparing our kitchens from dirty pandemonium. They give us a place to unload gear, remove boots and dirty shoes and hang coats and hats — so that the kitchen can remain a kitchen. When considering how your mudroom will function, think about what you want to keep out of the kitchen," explained Lyn Peterson.

  • Decorating Your Mantel...Asymmetry

So far I have showed you symmetrical displays and groupings but the objects, collections and artwork you have around your house really determine the type of display that will work the best.  If you have one great piece of artwork...not really as big as it should be...and some great smaller collectibles this might be the display for you. The asymmetrical display is all about balancing the visual weight of objects.

  • Light, Airy and Comfortable Design...continued

My goal is always to create good flow in functional, comfortable home.  You can create this feeling by using warm woods and a variety of textures.  Also try this tips...

  • Composition in Design

Decoration is composition. I spend a lot of time perfecting this in spaces- especially entry tables, mantels and bookcases.  There areas can take drama- and are not in the way of everyday life- so a static composition works here.               Use these opportunities to relate whom you are- your values, sense of humor and priorities.

  • Decorating for the Holidays

If you have little time to decorate for Christmas, at least make sure you fill your home with candles.  When your guests see the glow of candles your house will automatically feel warm and welcoming..and by candlelight no one can tell you didn't have time to clean...plus everyone looks better by the candles glow!!!
