This weekend the designers of By Design are descending on Galveston for its largest event of the year, the AIA Sandcastle Competition. The American Institute of Architects began the event in 1986 and it has grown to include more than 75 different groups, including the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA), vying for the best sandcastle. Each group is responsible for building a themed sandcastle on 10'x10' plots of beach. Lasting all day at East Beach, the event attracts over 20,000 spectators!
