For those of you who know me quite well....you are well aware that my family just got bigger! After marrying the most amazing man in the world and having a daughter just graduate from college, my home just got a little more crowded going from just 2 inhabitants to 4!
Here are a few organizing tips I found while reading a magazine one day and am sticking to these to keep my house neat, tidy and manageable...
*Give must-haves a proper home. Designate a place for frequently misplaced essentials and be sure to put them there when not in use. Use a small decorative tray or a colorful wall hook for keys. Try using Velcro strips to attach the remote control to the TV or ensure there's always a pen on your car dashboard.
*Stop clutter before it starts. Encourage family members to follow the "one in and one out" rule: for every new toy or article of clothing acquired, another must be donated or tossed. Plus, reduce the amount of junk mail delivered to your home by signing up with the National do Not Mail List.
*Be clear whenever possible. From seasonal clothing to holiday decorations to leftover food, find stored items fast by using clear containers that make contents readily visible. File menus, coupons, recipes and even kids' schoolwork in labeled binders with see through plastic sleeves.
*Team up with a friend. Big jobs like clearing out the garage or closet warrant an extra set of hands -- and a fresh, unbiased perspective. Take turns tackling your most dreaded organizational challenges together and then go out and celebrate your shared success.
